FTC Supports Regulations to Protect Postsecondary Students

Agency comments on Education Department’s efforts to counter deceptive practices in higher education.

The Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) Bureau of Consumer Protection expressed support for the U.S. Department of Education’s proposed regulations to protect postsecondary students in the education market. Officials stated that these regulations would help counter deceptive recruitment practices and misrepresentations, which aligns with the FTC’s efforts to address similar harms. The FTC affirmed the Education Department’s effort to shield consumers from deceptive claims by for-profit schools, misleading lead-generation practices, and fraudulent student loan debt relief services.

“Cracking down on predatory schools requires a whole-of-government approach, and we welcome the Department of Education’s renewed efforts to protect students,” said Samuel Levine, Director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection. “We will continue to work closely with our partners across the government to ensure fairness for student borrowers and accountability for those who cheat them.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For FTC Chair Lina Khan to look to the Lord for wisdom as she heads the commission.
  • For Director Levine as he heads the Bureau of Consumer Protection.
  • For Secretary Cardona to seek God’s guidance in leading the Department of Education.
